self
installation and sound work
enter self is a shared prescription of solitary objectives.
it presents somewhere between installation, sound work and ceremony, and is a spectacle of suspended fabric, with a single radiant bulb at its core. the lengths of pale green, viscose silk are reiterated across rows and columns at varied lengths—held at peace or alive with the elements. lay, sit or wander, while showered in longform, experimental sound collage, encompassing found sound, personal recordings, drones, sub frequencies and music. of warmth, intimacy, and introspection.
it’s an offering of stillness—shared space for interior reflections, expressions, solitary revelations.
it was first shared on may 15th–16th, 2021, alongside the elemental works of jay jermyn, as part of the third quarter’s ‘light workers’, presented at little street studio in fortitude valley for brisbane art design.

in practice
we installed on friday and it was returned to its elements on monday.
on saturday, the public were invited into the space, and from 4pm–8pm, i entered a ceremonial performance state, of awareness and response; guiding layers of spacious sound, warm drone, introspective melodies and personal recordings. there was a thick sense of reverence in the air—words spoken softly, selves carried with care, a potent energy to how the installation interacted with the outdoor environment. this atmosphere carried through the evening, and the night closed with an emotive live performance from veople, while the sound and silk interplayed in such a surreal way; harsh billowing, softness and subtleties.
on sunday, there was a second session from 12pm–4pm, and this time with a soft, recycled-plastic mat underneath the installation. here people could lay with and amongst the installation—peering through the silk lenghts to blue skies. 4 hours of rejuvinating, experimental sound collage, as the sun kissed the fabric, breathing gently over the environment.
